What happened

The U.S. military said it struck a suspected drug-smuggling boat in the Caribbean on Sunday, killing four people. The strike is part of a campaign against alleged drug traffickers in Latin American waters that began in September 2025. That campaign has killed more than 200 people in about 70 strikes. It has drawn legal and human-rights criticism, including a U.N. expert’s view that the attacks may be unlawful killings. The administration maintains its armed-conflict justification. President Trump has said the U.S. is in an armed conflict with Latin American cartels. Southern Command released video of an explosion destroying a moving boat. The identities of those killed have not been made public.
