CNN, MS NOW, Politico Sue Trump

CNN, MS NOW and Politico are suing to reverse a Trump White House access ban. · 123 articles

50% left · 24% center · 26% right

What happened

CNN, MS NOW and Politico say they are suing the Trump administration to restore White House access after their reporters were barred and badges revoked. The White House also removed CNN from its Monday TV pool slot, leaving no primary television crew to cover President Donald Trump’s trip. The suit argues the ban violates the First Amendment and due process because it punished disliked coverage without notice or a chance to contest it. Trump said the outlets publish “fake news” and warned more could follow. Major TV pool networks said they would not replace CNN. The case goes to U.S. District Judge Timothy Kelly, who handled a similar CNN dispute.

From the left

Left-leaning coverage framed the fight as a press-freedom test, stressing alleged retaliation and government control over journalism. CNN quoted the outlets calling the ban a “direct assault” on the First Amendment. The New York Times also centered news organizations’ claim that the White House revoked credentials because it objected to their reporting. The Guardian cast the fight as a wider standoff after major TV networks, including Fox, refused White House pool coverage in solidarity.

From the right

Right-leaning coverage divided between defending Trump’s gatekeeping, tracking the pool backlash, and noting legal risk. Breitbart News defended the ban as a refusal to extend special privileges to outlets accused of hostile or overwhelmingly negative coverage, citing Trump’s desire for “fair, untainted coverage”. The Daily Wire treated the TV pool boycott as a major escalation after Fox joined other networks in suspending shared video when CNN was blocked. Fox News framed the dispute through First Amendment objections, quoting Aaron Terr calling the action “blatantly unconstitutional”.

FAA Grounds Northeast Flights

A cut Verizon fiber line disrupted FAA systems, delaying flights across major Northeast airports. · 22 articles

27% left · 36% center · 36% right

What happened

A New Jersey construction crew cut a fiber-optic cable, triggering a telecom outage that disrupted FAA air traffic control operations across the Northeast. Verizon said contractors dug up its cable and that Verizon was not responsible, while Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy and initial reports identified an Amtrak crew. The failure began at Philadelphia TRACON, a regional control facility, after a primary circuit failed and controllers found the backup fiber was also damaged. The FAA ordered ground stops and delays at Newark, Philadelphia, Teterboro, JFK and LaGuardia. United Airlines and American Airlines offered travel flexibility as hundreds of flights were canceled. FAA officials said LaGuardia and Philadelphia were resuming service, while repairs continued elsewhere.

From the left

Left-leaning outlets treated the disruption mainly as an accidental infrastructure failure, while leaning into system fragility and timing around global travel. CNN kept Verizon’s position attached to the cable-cut account, rather than casting the company as at fault. Al Jazeera highlighted the U.N. General Assembly timing, and the Seattle Times tied the disruption to the Philadelphia FAA facility’s prior problems. The Guardian connected the episode to watchdog warnings about interference risks.

From the right

Right-leaning outlets led with airport chaos across the Northeast, while tying the cause to a severed line and the need for modernization. The New York Post framed the episode as havoc across more than half a dozen airports. Fox Business pointed to Amtrak construction work as the cause, while The Daily Wire used Duffy’s funding argument to stress aging infrastructure. The Daily Wire also emphasized travel by Trump and world leaders to the U.N. General Assembly.

Trump Praises Mayor Mamdani

President Trump praised NYC Mayor Mamdani after talks on housing, immigration and aid. · 20 articles

40% left · 30% center · 30% right

What happened

President Donald Trump met New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani at Gracie Mansion and praised him afterward at a joint news conference. The meeting centered on affordability, especially a Sunnyside Yard housing plan in Queens that could add about 12,000 homes and need major federal help. The visit was the first by a sitting president to Gracie Mansion in 45 years, and it marked their third in-person meeting despite sharp political differences. They also discussed immigration, including Trump’s move to end Temporary Protected Status for Haitian and Syrian immigrants. Mamdani defended Haitian New Yorkers as vital to the city. City and White House staff will now hold deeper technical talks, but no funding deal was announced.

From the left

Left-leaning outlets framed the meeting as a practical test of whether Mamdani could turn a cordial Trump relationship into help on city costs. The New York Times stressed the surprising warmth between ideological opposites, even as Republican attacks cast Mamdani as extreme. The Guardian lingered on press access, with Mamdani defending broader access while Trump attacked outlets he calls fake news.

From the right

Right-leaning outlets led with the political-odd-couple tone, casting Trump as willing to help Mamdani succeed for New York. The New York Post focused on Sunnyside Yard as a hard, unfinished federal-city funding question. The Gateway Pundit used the news conference to highlight Trump mocking hostile media and rejecting outlets he calls fake news.
