Federal prosecutors charged Melissa L. Farris, 41, of Elizabethtown, Kentucky, with two felonies after her arrest in the vandalism of the World War II Memorial on the National Mall in Washington. The charges are depredation against property of the United States and destruction of veterans’ memorials, offenses prosecutors said can carry up to 10 years in prison. Court documents accuse Farris of spray-painting "Clean hands dirty $" in red on the memorial and putting bubble soap in its fountain on Thursday.
