Luigi Mangione Pleads Guilty

Luigi Mangione, 28, pleaded guilty to two federal stalking charges in the killing of UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson, telling a federal court, “On the morning of December 4, 2024, I shot Mr. Thompson in Manhattan and he died.” The plea covers interstate stalking resulting in death and stalking through interstate facilities resulting in death, each carrying a maximum sentence of life in prison. Mangione was arrested five days after the shooting at a McDonald’s in Altoona, Pennsylvania. His separate Manhattan murder and weapons case remains pending, but New York’s double-jeopardy law could become a central issue.
