What happened

Authorities are seeking information in the Vienna, Georgia, block party shooting that killed Ja’Quavion Aderious Jackson, 21, of Cordele, and Macaleb Malik Jackson, 23, of Hawkinsville. Gunfire broke out around 1:25 a.m. Sunday on Pine Street, injuring 35 people. The party took place during Dooly County High School’s homecoming weekend, but officials said the school did not sponsor it. More than 1,000 people were there, and more than 50 shots were fired. The injured ranged from 14 to 51, with some hurt by vehicles or while fleeing. Schools opened Monday with added safety measures. No arrests had been made, and investigators had not named a motive.

How each side covered it

From the left

Only one left-leaning outlet we track covered this: Los Angeles Times, under the headline “2 killed, dozens hurt as gunfire erupts at homecoming block party in Georgia”.

From the right

Right-leaning outlets emphasized chaos, community grief and the open questions facing investigators. Fox News centered Sheriff Craig Peavy’s account of people going “every direction” as danger spread nearby. Breitbart News highlighted Rep. Sanford Bishop’s message that a home celebration became “unspeakable grief”. The Post Millennial stressed that interviews continued while suspects remained at large.
