A Learjet crashed in Palm Beach County, Florida, killing all nine people aboard. Newly reported cockpit communications reveal icing, turbulence and an emergency during a rapid descent. The Learjet 60 was flying from Austin, Texas, to the Bahamas before it went down on Nov. 1. The pilot reported ice building on the aircraft and moderate turbulence before declaring an emergency. The jet struck a roadway near a mobile-home community, leaving a crater and scattered wreckage. Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis called the crash “cataclysmic” and said it looked like a missile going down. No ground deaths or injuries were immediately reported. About 600 nearby residents were evacuated. Federal investigators have not determined the cause.

How the left told it

Left-leaning outlets centered the terror inside the cockpit while treating weather clues as unresolved leads. CNN lingered on the pilot’s final radio calls as the clearest window into the flight’s last moments. The Guardian focused on the rapid descent as the key unanswered question. MS NOW stressed the danger to nearby homes and traffic.

How the right told it

Right-leaning outlets led with the force of the impact, then moved into the crew’s final warnings. The New York Post emphasized the fireball, crater and “haunting” cockpit audio, while presenting icing and turbulence as possible clues under investigation.
