The reporting
The Justice Department finalized a rule Monday creating a Federal Firearm Rights Restoration application process for people barred from possessing guns because of criminal convictions. Attorney General Todd Blanche said applicants must document the basis for their prohibition and show they are not likely to pose a danger to public safety. The department will evaluate applicants’ criminal records, reputations and other relevant circumstances before deciding whether to restore federal firearm rights. The Justice Department estimated about 330,000 people could apply.
