Rubén Rocha Moya, governor of Mexico’s Sinaloa state, requested an indefinite leave of absence for more than 30 days, one day after announcing he had resumed office. Rocha had stepped aside in May after U.S. prosecutors accused him of conspiring with the Sinaloa cartel to traffic drugs into the United States, then said on Aug. 21 that he was returning as constitutional governor. The reversal followed opposition inside the ruling MORENA party, and state lawmakers were expected to approve the leave request.
