Premier Ford Unveils Lake Ontario Sign

Google Maps began displaying Lake Ontario as “Lake America” for users in the United States after President Donald Trump signed a Thursday executive order directing the federal government to rename the Great Lake. Google said the update followed a change in the U.S. Geographic Names Information System, its official source for U.S. place names, and that the label change applies to U.S. users. The order came amid a U.S.-Canada trade dispute over tariffs. Ontario Premier Doug Ford responded by unveiling a large “Lake Ontario — Now and Always” sign on the Canadian shoreline.
