House Condemns Socialism

The House on Tuesday adopted a Republican resolution condemning socialism “in all its forms” in a 220-192-2 vote, with eight Democrats joining every Republican and two Democrats voting present. The measure also denounces the Democratic Socialists of America and calls for enactment of the SAVE America Act, a GOP-backed bill requiring proof of U.S. citizenship to vote in federal elections. Democratic leaders opposed the resolution over the voting-language provision. The floor vote followed a rule vote in which five Republicans defected and two Democrats helped advance the measure.
