Judge Blocks Trump Citizenship Curbs

U.S. District Judge Deborah Boardman in Maryland on Wednesday granted a preliminary injunction blocking President Donald Trump’s latest executive order restricting birthright citizenship, finding the policy “almost certainly unconstitutional.” The August order sought to deny automatic citizenship to some U.S.-born children of noncitizen parents, including cases the administration described as “birth tourism.” Boardman said the Supreme Court had already determined those children are citizens at birth under the 14th Amendment. The injunction applies to a nationwide class of children born after Feb. 19, 2025.
