The reporting
On the 25th anniversary of the Sept. 11, 2001, attacks, retrospectives centered on al-Qaeda’s hijacking of four planes, the destruction of the World Trade Center towers, the strike on the Pentagon and the crash in Shanksville, Pennsylvania. The attacks killed 2,977 people, including 24 Canadians, after passengers on the fourth plane tried to retake control. Commentaries assessed how the attacks reshaped U.S. politics, military service, foreign policy, civil liberties, conspiracy movements and national unity. Jewish communities also marked the anniversary as it coincided with Rosh Hashanah.
