President Donald Trump said at a 9/11 remembrance event at the Ellipse on Tuesday that two firefighters lifted him and carried him away from a creaking building they feared would collapse after the Sept. 11, 2001 attacks. The remarks came during the Tunnel to Towers Foundation’s Steel Across America ceremony, which displayed a 21-foot, 16,900-pound steel beam recovered from the World Trade Center. Fact-checkers and critics said there is no public evidence supporting Trump’s account. The White House did not provide evidence when asked about the claim.
