The reporting

A neutral summary of the key facts most sources agree on, drawn from reporting across the political spectrum.

Sen. John Fetterman (D-Pa.) made an unannounced prerecorded video appearance Wednesday at the Republican midterm convention in Dallas, introducing Pennsylvania Republican Sen. Dave McCormick as a “great friend” and saying he would work with President Donald Trump on economic issues. Fetterman described himself as a “common-sense Democrat” who rejects socialism and anti-American extremism. His office later said he will remain a Democrat and would provide the majority-making vote if Democrats win the Senate in November. Rep. Madeleine Dean criticized the appearance, while Senate Majority Leader John Thune said he was open to discussing Fetterman joining the GOP.

Overblown BacklashMostly Right

John Fetterman is justified in putting national identity ahead of party loyalty while still remaining a Democrat. Democratic anger over his Republican convention appearance is excessive and unfair.
