Trump Announces Greenland Deal

President Trump said the United States reached a security agreement with Denmark and Greenland giving Washington “permanent control over security” in Greenland while Danish sovereignty remains. Denmark and Greenland described it as a security pact that strengthens Arctic and North Atlantic defense without transferring sovereignty. The pact would bar non-NATO countries, including China and Russia, from bases or troops there, and would screen sensitive investments by U.S. adversaries. The United States already has forces in Greenland under a 1951 defense agreement, including Pituffik Space Base. Trump said the U.S. will quickly build a larger military presence. The deal is expected to be signed next week, but needs approval in Denmark and Greenland.
