Sen. Blackburn Sues Jack Smith

Sen. Marsha Blackburn sued former special counsel Jack Smith and the Justice Department in federal court in Tennessee over subpoenas for her phone toll records. She says the subpoenas violated the Constitution by sweeping in legislative work and political contacts. The lawsuit follows Smith’s Senate Judiciary testimony a day earlier, after Republicans pressed him over records gathered in his Trump-related probe. Blackburn also argues Smith was unlawfully appointed because he was not nominated by the president or confirmed by the Senate. She seeks $1, return or destruction of the records, and an order destroying any legislative materials. Sen. Bill Hagerty separately asked Tennessee officials to seek Smith’s disbarment. The court fight now begins.
