What happened

President Donald Trump held a rally in Syracuse on Oct. 9 for Republican Bruce Blakeman’s campaign for New York governor. Blakeman is challenging Democratic Gov. Kathy Hochul in the Nov. 3 midterm election, after Republicans have spent decades struggling to win the state’s governorship. Trump urged voters to elect Blakeman and said he would help from the White House, including by coming to New York within 24 hours if asked. He blamed Hochul’s policies for high costs, crime and illegal immigration. Blakeman promised tax and utility cuts, stronger public safety, and an end to green-energy and sanctuary-state policies. Recent polling showed Hochul ahead by at least 10 points.

How each side covered it

From the left

Only one left-leaning outlet we track covered this: MEDIAite, under the headline “Woman Escorted From Trump Rally Gives President Double Middle Finger on Way Out”.

From the right

Right-leaning outlets framed the Syracuse rally as a serious Republican push to flip New York and build momentum before the midterms. Fox News tied that case to attacks on Democratic governance, saying a Trump-Blakeman partnership would lower costs, enforce immigration law and make streets safer. It lingered on Mike Tyson’s appearance as celebrity backing and playful protection imagery.
