A Chinese humanoid robot identified as Lightning or Lightning Bolt ran 100 meters in a reported 9.32 to 9.39 seconds at the World Humanoid Robot Games in Beijing on Saturday, beating Usain Bolt’s 9.58-second human world record from 2009. The robot reached a reported top speed of 14.5 meters per second before crashing into a blue wall after the finish in some accounts. Available accounts differ on whether Beijing-based X-Humanoid or Chinese smartphone maker Honor developed it. The event includes about 2,000 robots competing in humanoid sports.
