At least eight people were killed and 18 were missing after the Filo Jet, carrying 259 passengers and eight crew, capsized off northern Cyprus while traveling to Turkey. Turkish Cypriot authorities said 241 people were rescued alive as search-and-rescue crews continued operations in the Mediterranean. The privately owned ferry left Kyrenia at 12:30 p.m. for Tasucu and began taking on water about 15 minutes later; police detained the captain and seven others as part of an investigation.
