The reporting

A neutral summary of the key facts most outlets agree on, drawn from reporting across the political spectrum.

Indonesia extended closures at several airports on Monday after Anak Krakatau’s eruption disrupted nearly 3,000 flights, leaving more than 340,000 passengers stranded nationwide. The volcano, about 150 kilometers from Jakarta, began continuous eruptions at 11:07 p.m. local time on Friday, sending ash into flight paths and prompting cancellations at Jakarta’s Soekarno-Hatta International Airport. Seven airports remained closed as ash hazards persisted, while schools in affected areas shifted to remote learning. Authorities said the continuous eruption had ended just after midnight Sunday, but aviation restrictions remained in place.
