What happened

Two attacks hit Riyadh’s King Khalid International Airport on Thursday, targeting airport facilities and a Saudia aircraft. The strikes killed three Saudi citizens and injured several other people. They came amid renewed fighting in Yemen, where Saudi Arabia and its allies have launched an offensive against the Iran-backed Houthis. Yemen’s Houthis claimed responsibility, saying they were attacking Saudi Arabia for backing Yemen’s internationally recognized government and its campaign to retake rebel-held territory. Saudi authorities described the strikes but did not identify who carried them out. The Saudi-led coalition said it destroyed three Houthi rocket-launch platforms and warned of a firm response to attacks on civilians and civilian infrastructure.

How each side covered it

From the left

Left-leaning outlets framed the strikes as an attack on civilian aviation, then widened the lens to travel disruption and regional risk. HuffPost centered the deaths and cited the kingdom’s civil aviation authority saying a pilot was among those killed. The Guardian stressed escalation beyond Yemen, tying the attacks to oil prices and nervous markets.

From the right

Right-leaning outlets led with deadly Houthi strikes on civilian aviation, while giving more weight to airspace disruption and security threats. Daily Mail emphasized the destruction of a passenger jet and described the campaign as an effort to shut down Saudi airspace and oil facilities. Epoch Times focused on warnings to Americans because Iran-backed Houthis could drive rapid escalation.
