What happened

A man entered the tiger enclosure at Yorkshire Wildlife Park near Doncaster on Saturday and died after an attack. Emergency services tried to save him, but he was pronounced dead at the scene. The enclosure is part of Land of the Tigers, a two-acre Amur tiger reserve that opened in 2011 with a raised visitor walkway. The park was evacuated and closed after the incident. It said affected staff would receive specialist support. Police said the tiger, identified by the park as Altai, was uninjured and stayed inside the enclosure. They said there was no wider public danger and urged people not to share circulating footage. Police were investigating how and why the man entered.

How each side covered it

From the left

Left-leaning outlets framed the killing as a tragedy for relatives and staff, while stressing the tiger’s welfare and public safety. The Guardian led with the park’s reassurance that Altai would not be euthanised and highlighted staff support after the incident. MEDIAite focused on authorities’ account that the man’s conduct appeared bizarre after the bite.

From the right

Right-leaning outlets centered the man’s unusual behavior before the fatal encounter, while treating the tiger’s fate as a major concern. The New York Post emphasized the photo request, dancing and apparent attempts to interact with the tiger before entry. The Daily Caller stressed police’s point that the episode was contained, not a public escape threat.
