What happened

Griffin J. John II, a 16-year-old former Silver Rail student, killed three children and teacher Megan Lambert after entering the Bend elementary school and attacking a special education classroom. A 7-year-old student and a 54-year-old teacher were wounded, and the shooter died at the scene. Police said the teenager had been in special education, adding urgency to questions about why he returned to the school. A teacher threw her phone, tackled him and fought for the shotgun before parent Kaylub Giamanco followed him inside and fatally shot him. Police credited both actions with limiting the attack. Investigators are searching his home and devices, but said a motive may never be known.
