What happened

Actor Keegan Allen was robbed outside Laurel Supply in West Hollywood on Thursday night, Oct. 8. Allen, known for “Pretty Little Liars,” was by his pickup when two masked men confronted him. One pointed a handgun, the other showed a knife, and they demanded his watch and bracelet. One hit Allen with the gun, and they fled with his watch. West Hollywood is an independent city, so the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department is leading the case, not the LAPD. Bass’s office called the incident egregious and said LAPD could assist regional partners if needed. Allen shared bloodied video and surveillance footage, wrote that West Hollywood was “not safe anymore,” and said the attackers threatened to kill him over his watch. He was evaluated for a forehead cut and was not hospitalized. Allen questioned whether Flock cameras promoted for fighting crime could identify them, tagging Mayor Karen Bass and Gov. Gavin Newsom.

How each side covered it

From the left

Left-leaning outlets framed the story as a violent armed attack, with less emphasis on Allen’s political pressure afterward. The Guardian tied Allen’s injuries and account to surveillance footage showing the armed confrontation.

From the right

Right-leaning outlets presented the robbery as a celebrity attack and test of officials’ crime-fighting claims. Fox News emphasized the bloodied video. The New York Post focused on Allen’s challenge to Karen Bass and Gavin Newsom over surveillance cameras. Breitbart cited Allen’s warning that West Hollywood is “not safe anymore”.
