Federal investigators have linked shredded iceberg lettuce supplied by Taylor Farms to some Taco Bell restaurants as a source of a cyclosporiasis outbreak, focusing on locations in Indiana, Kentucky, Michigan, Ohio and West Virginia. The lettuce was sourced from Mexico and served at affected restaurants before Taco Bell voluntarily and temporarily removed lettuce and some other fresh ingredients from select locations. Since May 1, nearly 7,000 cyclosporiasis cases have been confirmed or remain under investigation nationwide. The Cyclospora parasite causes prolonged watery diarrhea, cramps and nausea, and severe cases can require hospitalization.
