The reporting
The Trump administration finalized a Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services rule barring federal Medicaid funds from covering gender-identity health care for enrollees under 18 and blocking Children’s Health Insurance Program payments for the same care for people under 19. The rule takes effect Oct. 13 and applies to puberty blockers, hormone treatments and surgeries. President Donald Trump said he directed CMS Administrator Mehmet Oz to end the funding. Beneficiaries already receiving cross-sex hormone therapy may continue claiming benefits under the rule.
Analysis & opinion
Colorado transition programsCenter & Right
Colorado’s taxpayer-funded transgender-related programs push children toward transgender identification and medical transition. Trump should intervene because those programs promote a harmful and impossible attempt to change a child’s sex.
End Medicaid fundingLeans Right
Medicaid should not pay for gender-transition hormones or surgeries for minors. Children cannot properly consent to these experimental and harmful procedures, so taxpayers should not be forced to fund them.
