The reporting

A neutral summary of the key facts most outlets agree on, drawn from reporting across the political spectrum.

Adm. Brad Cooper, commander of U.S. Central Command, visited the USS Abraham Lincoln during a 10-day Middle East trip ending Aug. 15 and said relief was coming as the USS George Washington moved into the Indian Ocean. The carrier has been deployed nearly nine months, including more than 260 days without a port call, supporting the war with Iran. Cooper said Lincoln has among the lowest mental-health case totals in the Navy’s 11-carrier fleet, despite reports of overboard incidents, shortages and plumbing failures that prompted lawmakers to seek oversight.
