The reporting
Sen. Bill Cassidy, a Louisiana Republican physician who chairs the Senate health committee, said Sunday that President Donald Trump’s order to split the combined measles, mumps and rubella vaccine into separate childhood shots was “wrong on so many levels” and “crazy, stupid.” Cassidy said the change would turn two MMR shots into six, add doctor visits, raise out-of-pocket and insurance costs, and risk lower vaccination rates. He also said HHS Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. had broken confirmation assurances that he would not alter the vaccine schedule.
Analysis & opinion
Cassidy's RFK mistakeLeans Left
Bill Cassidy badly misjudged Robert F. Kennedy Jr. by helping confirm an anti-vaccine conspiracy theorist to a powerful health role. He now looks exposed and evasive rather than willing to own the consequences of that vote.
Reckless vaccine attackLeans Left
Trump’s actions and comments on childhood vaccines are dangerously irresponsible and deserve strong pushback. His vaccine order is so indefensible that doctors, medical groups, and even a loyal Republican critic are justified in rejecting it.
