What happened

The FDA told a federal court it expects to finish collecting mifepristone study results by mid-December and complete its report by March 2027. It will then decide whether the abortion pill’s use or restrictions should change. The FDA approved mifepristone in 2000 and has repeatedly reaffirmed its safety and effectiveness. Health Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. ordered the review after a conservative think tank claimed higher serious-complication rates, while reproductive-health researchers called its work unpublished, not peer-reviewed junk science. Gavin Oxley of Americans United for Life condemned the delay; Reproductive Freedom for All called the review political. The FDA said it will not impose new restrictions before finishing the study.
