Cities Disable Flock Cameras

Tempe, Arizona, shut down its Flock Safety automated license plate reader network and plans to terminate its $80,000 contract, citing privacy risks and reported misuse in other cities. The city said it will not replace the system with another provider’s cameras. Nearly 100 local governments across the U.S. have turned off Flock cameras, and at least 56 cities and towns have deactivated, rejected or canceled contracts in 2026 alone. Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis urged lawmakers to regulate the cameras, warning against a “surveillance state.”
