PM Carney Rebukes Trump Memes

Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney said Tuesday that trade talks with the United States can resume only when U.S. officials “stop doing memes, stop throwing shade” and pursue serious discussions. Canada walked away from negotiations on Aug. 21, saying late U.S. demands could wipe out Canadian industries and failed to respect Canadian sovereignty. U.S. Trade Representative Jamieson Greer said no negotiations are underway and called the dispute a bigger economic risk for Canada. Canada is set to impose retaliatory tariffs on $20 billion in U.S. imports next week.
