The reporting
Sen. Thom Tillis (R-N.C.) urged President Donald Trump to replace Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth after Army Secretary Dan Driscoll resigned Monday following 18 months in the post. Driscoll said Wednesday was his last full day as Army secretary and gave no public reason for leaving. Tillis said Hegseth had forced out senior officers, failed to retain needed Pentagon talent and focused on culture-war disputes instead of military readiness. At least 20 generals, admirals and civilian defense leaders have been fired, forced out or resigned since Hegseth became defense secretary.
Analysis & opinion
Dangerous Pentagon purgeMostly Left
Pete Hegseth and Donald Trump’s military leadership is driving out qualified Defense Department and Army leaders, leaving the Pentagon unstable and weakened. The turmoil is not just personnel drama; it is a dangerous, politicized purge that risks military readiness and serious operational failure.
