9/11 Trial Remains Stalled

A military judge at Guantánamo Bay set June 5, 2028, for the trial of Khalid Sheikh Mohammed, the alleged architect of the Sept. 11 attacks, and three co-defendants, after rejecting prosecutors’ request to start in January 2027. The schedule puts the trial nearly 27 years after the attacks that killed almost 3,000 people. Mohammed has been held at the U.S. military prison in Cuba for about two decades, and the case remains in pretrial litigation. Disputes over CIA black-site torture, admissible evidence and plea negotiations continue to shape the proceedings.
