Ground Zero Ceremony Stirs Debate

The aftermath of 9/11 left America trapped in fear, war, backlash, and political decay. The War on Terror harmed civilians abroad, eroded civil rights at home, and created structures whose damage still shapes American life.

Attacks on Zohran Mamdani’s presence at 9/11 commemorations are rooted in anti-Muslim prejudice rather than legitimate concern for the victims. Republican and right-wing criticism of him, including claims about disrespectful behavior, amounts to false smearing and reflects a broader hostility toward Muslims.

The New York Times wrongly treated Muslims as the central victims of 9/11’s aftermath while downplaying the people murdered in the attacks. That narrative obscures the Islamist terrorism responsible for September 11 and distorts the meaning of the anniversary.

Zohran Mamdani and Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez acted disrespectfully at the 9/11 memorial by smiling, laughing, or otherwise behaving inappropriately while victims were being honored. Their conduct dishonored the solemnity of the ceremony and, in stronger versions, reflected a broader left-wing tendency to minimize 9/11.

America has failed to preserve the hard lessons of 9/11 and must take Islamist terrorism and related ideological threats more seriously. Honoring the victims requires moral clarity, civic remembrance, and a refusal to excuse or accommodate the forces that produced the attacks.
