Bettina Trump confirmed in an Instagram statement signed by the couple that Russian businessman Umar Kremlev hosted two nights afterward as an “extraordinarily generous wedding gift” from a dear friend. ProPublica reported Kremlev paid hundreds of thousands of dollars, including for a private island used for a reception and lodging, plus fireworks. Kremlev is described in reports as close to Vladimir Putin. President Donald Trump did not attend.
