What happened
President Trump held a midterm rally in Mobile, Alabama, to thank loyal Republican voters and boost turnout for GOP candidates. The stop was aimed at helping Alabama Republicans, including Rhett Marques in the newly redrawn 2nd District, along with Tommy Tuberville, Barry Moore and Jerry Carl. Trump returned to Mobile because it hosted his first major 2015 rally, which he called the place where it “sort of all began.” His campaign says that earlier rally drew about 30,000 people. The event came as one AP-NORC poll put Trump’s approval at 31 percent. Trump urged supporters to pretend he was on the ballot. He said he would return next week for the Alabama-Georgia football game.
How each side covered it
From the left
Left-leaning outlets framed the Alabama stop less as a show of dominance than as a warning sign for Republicans in the midterms. The Los Angeles Times treated red-state campaigning as evidence of party concern, not battleground strength. The New York Times lingered on the contrast between past MAGA energy and visible empty seats. The Los Angeles Times emphasized Trump trying to turn personal loyalty into turnout for lesser-known candidates.
From the right
Right-leaning outlets presented the rally as a practical turnout push and a tribute to a loyal Republican state. The Washington Examiner centered Trump’s effort to energize voters for Republican candidates before Election Day. The New York Post emphasized his message that Alabama deserved respect for backing him early. The Washington Examiner also highlighted Trump’s link to Southern college football through the Alabama-Georgia plan.
