What happened

Latino registered voters favored Democratic control of Congress over Republican control by 59% to 35% in the NBC News/Telemundo poll. The survey also found 27% approved of President Donald Trump’s performance, while roughly three-quarters disapproved of his handling of the economy and cost of living. The shift lands after Trump narrowed Democrats’ Latino advantage in 2024, when exit polling cited by CNN found 46% supported him. The Democratic lead on Congress is now twice as wide as it was at the same point in 2024. Trump told an Ohio rally that unfavorable polls missed his campaigning and predicted his supporters would prevail. The poll surveyed 800 Latino registered voters.

How each side covered it

From the left

Only one left-leaning outlet we track covered this: CNN, under the headline “Latino voters, souring on Trump, swing toward Democrats, new poll finds | CNN Politics”.

From the right

Right-leaning outlets framed the poll as a Democratic rebound that cuts into Republican gains without erasing them. Fox News led with Latino voters moving back toward Democrats, tied the shift to dissatisfaction over Trump’s handling of living costs, and stressed that Republicans remain stronger with Latino voters than they were a decade ago.
