What happened
A three-judge federal appeals panel in New York heard Saudi Arabia’s appeal of a ruling allowing 9/11 victims’ families’ lawsuit to proceed. The panel did not announce a decision after the Oct. 7 hearing. In August 2025, a federal district judge found the families had presented enough evidence to proceed, without deciding ultimate liability. The families allege Saudi government-linked people supported at least two hijackers after they arrived in the United States. Saudi Arabia denies involvement and says allegations against the kingdom or its officials are false. Saudi Arabia argues sovereign immunity protects it from suit. More than 100 relatives attended. The panel will rule later.
How each side covered it
From the left
Left-leaning outlets we track didn't cover this story.
From the right
Right-leaning outlets framed the case as a bid to overcome Saudi Arabia’s sovereign-immunity defense and seek accountability. The New York Post lingered on the families’ packed courtroom turnout and cited Judge George Daniels’s view that the record contained “reasonable evidence” supporting the claims.
