The reporting

A neutral summary of the key facts most sources agree on, drawn from reporting across the political spectrum.

President Donald Trump said Katie Zacharia will begin as White House press secretary on Columbus Day and hold her first briefing on Tuesday at 9:30 a.m. in the White House press briefing room. Zacharia, a lawyer and conservative commentator who has worked at Trump Media & Technology, is replacing Karoline Leavitt. Trump said Zacharia has been with him "in spirit, from the very beginning," while former press secretaries and conservative allies said her success will depend on her relationship with Trump and ability to handle the briefing room.
