A free recap of the day’s biggest stories and how each side covered them.

What happened

At least six protesters repeatedly interrupted Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth during a panel on autonomous warfare at the Association of the U.S. Army’s annual conference in Washington. The panel focused on Project Agincourt, a Pentagon effort to speed development and buying of autonomous weapons and other systems. The protesters said they opposed the Iran war and U.S. military support for Israel, shouting that civilians and children were being killed in Gaza. Hegseth first joked about the interruptions, then called the remarks slogans and said Iran would never have a nuclear weapon. Security removed protesters one by one, while some audience members chanted “USA.”

How each side covered it

From the left

Left-leaning outlets made the confrontation the main story, emphasizing how the interruptions overtook Hegseth’s appearance. Raw Story framed the event as a panel derailed by protesters removed after shouting at him. Joe.My.God. centered accusations that cast Hegseth as culpable for war and civilian suffering. PBS NewsHour stressed that the discussion continued around drones and smaller contractors.

From the right

Right-leaning outlets presented the protesters as disruptive aggressors using repeated interruptions at a major Army event. Fox News emphasized Hegseth’s early humor and sarcasm, then his growing irritation as the outbursts continued.
