What happened

James Talarico’s campaign announced it raised $64 million from July through September, a record third-quarter total for a U.S. Senate candidate. The haul lands in a Texas Senate race where Democrats are chasing a prize they have not won since 1988. Republican nominee Ken Paxton reported raising $18 million for the quarter, while Republican outside groups have spent more than $175 million since Sept. 1 supporting him or attacking Talarico. Talarico said grassroots supporters were backing him to end billionaire control of politics and lower costs for working families. His campaign said more than 97% of third-quarter donations were $100 or less. Campaign finance reports were due Thursday night, with spending and cash totals unavailable.

How each side covered it

From the left

Only one left-leaning outlet we track covered this: Joe.My.God., under the headline “Talarico Raised Record $64 Million In Third Quarter”.

From the right

Right-leaning outlets framed the haul as a sign of Democratic ambition, while stressing the race’s Republican defenses and past limits of big fundraising. Newsmax treated the surge as evidence Democrats see a real opening in a traditionally Republican seat. Washington Times emphasized conservative outside spending and warned that earlier record-setting Democratic Senate fundraising did not prevent defeat.
