What happened

President Donald Trump endorsed Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu for reelection, nine days before Israel’s Oct. 27 vote. The endorsement followed months in which Trump had withheld public backing as the leaders’ Middle East strategies diverged, including over the Iran war and Israeli military actions in the region. Netanyahu’s Likud-led bloc faced a close contest, with polls showing it short of the 61 Knesset seats needed to form a majority government. Opposition challengers included Gadi Eisenkot’s Yashar party. Trump said Netanyahu was a strong partner against Iran. Netanyahu thanked him and said, “Together we will complete the mission.” The effect on the race was not yet clear.

How each side covered it

From the left

Left-leaning outlets framed the move as a late political lift for Netanyahu after visible strain with Trump, while stressing the risks tied to Iran. HuffPost cast the backing as a coveted boost that Trump had held back for months. Salon focused on Trump’s warning that another choice could complicate future U.S. action against Tehran. Raw Story highlighted backlash from the left and from Trump’s own America First supporters.

From the right

Right-leaning outlets framed Netanyahu as the proven ally Trump sees as essential against Iran, making security the central case. Newsmax cited Trump calling Netanyahu a “Great Warrior Prime Minister” and an indispensable partner in confronting Iran. Fox News emphasized Trump’s argument that without Netanyahu, the United States would have to finish the fight against Iran alone.
