President Donald Trump and first lady Melania Trump voted in person at the Palm Beach County Supervisor of Elections office in West Palm Beach on Oct. 24. Trump then headed to Georgia for a rally and urged Republicans to vote early, by mail, absentee ballot or in person. The push comes after Trump repeatedly attacked mail voting as fraud-prone and sought new limits on it, though he has used mail ballots himself. Asked whether he voted along party lines, Trump said, “Very much so.” His administration is also suing over California ballots it says involve about 20,000 likely noncitizens; California officials call the data unreliable. Election Day is Nov. 3.

Left and right

From the left

Left-leaning outlets framed the episode as a reversal of Trump’s past attacks on early and mail voting, with a warning about election trust. The New York Times stressed that Trump has called early voting “stupid” and “ridiculous,” while tying his claims to administration moves that could affect ballot counting.

From the right

Right-leaning outlets framed Trump’s vote as part of a hard-charging effort to lift Republicans, not as a contradiction. The New York Post emphasized his grueling campaign schedule before the midterms. One America News Network highlighted his push for supporters to “pretend” he is on the ballot. The Gateway Pundit connected his remarks to claims of fake polls and fake votes.
