Apple Maps changed Lake Ontario’s label to “Lake America” for users in the United States on Sept. 1 after President Donald Trump’s executive order directing federal agencies to use the new name. Google Maps had already adopted the U.S.-only label, while users outside the country continue to see “Lake Ontario.” The lake spans the U.S.-Canada border between New York and Ontario, and the order came amid a U.S.-Canada trade dispute. MapQuest kept the Lake Ontario label and rose to No. 1 among free U.S. App Store apps.
