Saudi Arabia shut down its East-West crude oil pipeline as a precaution after multiple drone attacks on Thursday hit the system in the Riyadh and Madinah regions, setting fires, causing damage and injuring several people. The line carries up to 7 million barrels a day about 750 miles from the kingdom’s Persian Gulf oil fields to Yanbu on the Red Sea, bypassing the Strait of Hormuz. Saudi officials said the drones were launched from Iraq; Iraq condemned the attack, opened an investigation and dismissed a regional commander in Maysan province. Iran-backed Houthi forces also seized full control of Yemen’s Red Sea coast.
