What happened

Patrick Clancy gave his first televised interview after his ex-wife Lindsay Clancy’s murder trial ended in a mistrial. He said he came home in January 2023 and found their children strangled in the basement, with Lindsay injured outside after an attempted suicide. Lindsay Clancy was charged with killing Cora, Dawson and Callan; her defense said postpartum illness left her not criminally responsible, while prosecutors said she knew what she was doing. Patrick Clancy said he forgave her and tied the killings to mental illness. He said infant Callan lived four days, then died in his arms. Patrick Clancy said he has remarried and is starting a family.

How each side covered it

From the left

Left-leaning accounts framed the interview as a father’s grief shaped by forgiveness and perinatal mental health, rather than by public outrage. CNN emphasized his view that online conspiracy theories damaged the children’s legacy and pulled focus from that health issue. HuffPost lingered on Rachel Danis defending their marriage against “twisted” narratives. The Seattle Times foregrounded his final days with Callan.
