What happened

White House aides began jockeying for chief of staff Susie Wiles’s job as the midterm elections neared. The maneuvering was tied to expectations that Wiles might leave or be pushed out after the vote. The speculation landed as Republicans faced competitive races and the risk of losing slim congressional majorities. It also followed personnel turmoil, including reported removals of Kristi Noem and Kimberly Guilfoyle. Politico said President Donald Trump had asked allies about possible replacements, while Trump called that “TOTAL FAKE NEWS” and said Wiles had his “COMPLETE confidence.” Wiles has not indicated she plans to leave. Semafor said people close to Trump dismissed firing talk as unfounded.

How each side covered it

From the left

Left-leaning outlets framed the story as an internal power fight around Trump, not routine staff churn. Raw Story pointed to a belief that Wiles was weakened by clashes with Trump over policy and personnel. In Mediaite’s account, reporting on a possible replacement triggered what multiple people inside Trump’s orbit called a “freakout,” as Wiles’s allies moved into damage-control mode. The New Republic cast Trump as preparing to scapegoat Wiles for an expected Republican midterm disaster rather than accept blame himself.

Only one right-leaning outlet we track covered this: Washington Examiner, under the headline “White House report card: It's starting to look like a return to first-term chaos”.
